National governments, research institutions, conservation organizations, United Nations agencies and private companies will take part in the 3rd Great Apes Survival Partnership (GRASP) Council, which will be held 21-24 November in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The GRASP Council is held every four years to set global priorities and targets for the conservation of chimpanzees, gorillas, bonobos and orangutans and their habitats. Indonesia is a charter partner of GRASP and home to critically endangered Sumatran and Bornean orangutans.

GRASP is comprised of 105 partners, and themes for the 3rd GRASP Council will be climate change, sustainable palm oil, and illegal trade. GRASP delegates will also discuss important issues, such as a proposal to add gibbons to the GRASP mandate.

The 1st GRASP Council was held in Kinshasa, DR Congo and the 2nd GRASP Council was held in Paris, France. The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) will hold the 3rd Gorilla Agreement Meeting of the Parties in parallel with the 3rd GRASP Council, in order that the two organizations might streamline efforts to conserve gorillas in Africa.
